More about spot cleaners

Everything you want to know before choosing a spot cleaner: how it works, what you use it for and which model suits your household best.

How does a spot cleaner work?

The Achaté Spot Cleaner moistens the fabric and immediately sucks up the dirty water with the loosened dirt. The Spot Cleaner works with water only. A separate cleaning agent is not needed.

What remains is a clean, slightly damp surface that dries within a few hours. The difference with dabbing or scrubbing? The spot cleaner actually pulls the dirt out of the fibres instead of spreading it around. Unpleasant odours disappear too, so your upholstered furniture not only looks clean but also smells fresh.

For everyday stains and stubborn dirt

The Spot Cleaner PRO goes a step further with a steam function and hot water up to 50 degrees. The steam of around 100 degrees dissolves stubborn dirt and grease. That way you also tackle older, deep stains that won't come out with water alone.

What do you use a spot cleaner for?

A spot cleaner is made for fabric surfaces in and around the house. Below are the most common uses.

Sofa and chairs
The sofa attracts stains like nothing else. With a wide suction nozzle you can tackle large surfaces quickly. For seams and corners, use a narrower nozzle. Leather and faux leather need a different type of cleaning.

Carpet and rugs
The combination of moistening and suction pulls dirt out of the deeper layers of the carpet. This is a real lifesaver for pet owners: odours and stains that a regular vacuum cleaner can't remove disappear with a spot cleaner.

Mattress
Sweat, skin flakes and house dust mites sit deep in the fibres of your mattress. A spot cleaner removes this dirt in a way that airing alone can't. The Spot Cleaner PRO with steam also tackles bacteria.

Car
Car seats and upholstery take a beating. The Achaté Spot Cleaner weighs 5 kg and has a 1.1-metre hose, compact enough to use in the car as well.

When do you choose a spot cleaner and when a steam cleaner?

A spot cleaner and a steam cleaner both clean, but they are made for different situations. A spot cleaner moistens the fabric and sucks up the dirty water. Ideal for visible stains on sofas, carpets and mattresses.

A steam cleaner uses heat to loosen dirt from hard surfaces such as tiles, floors and sanitary fittings. Want to remove stains from fabric upholstery? Then a spot cleaner is the better choice. Want to clean floors, your bathroom and kitchen hygienically? Then a steam cleaner is more suitable.

The Achaté Spot Cleaner PRO combines both techniques: it moistens and vacuums like a spot cleaner, but also has a steam function for textiles.

Why a spot cleaner from Achaté?

At Achaté you can choose from two products, each for a different type of use.

Achaté Spot Cleaner
Compact and effective for everyday stains. Works with water only, without a separate cleaning product. Suitable for sofas, carpets and car upholstery.

Achaté Spot Cleaner PRO
The same spray and suction function, plus steam of around 100 degrees and hot water up to 50 degrees. The steam dissolves stubborn dirt and grease that won't come loose with water alone. Suitable for deep stains and more intensive use.

Both models weigh 5 kg, have a 1.1-metre hose and come with several attachments. They work without chemical cleaning products – better for your health and for the environment.

Buying a spot cleaner? Choose Achaté

A spot cleaner is a practical choice if you regularly want to remove stains from upholstered furniture, carpet, mattresses or car upholstery. Choose the Spot Cleaner for everyday stains or the Spot Cleaner PRO for more stubborn dirt with steam and hot water.

What is the best spot cleaner?

The best spot cleaner depends on what you want to clean. For everyday stains on sofas and carpets, the Achaté Spot Cleaner is enough. For older or stubborn stains, the Spot Cleaner PRO with steam and hot water is more effective. When choosing, pay attention to suction power, tank capacity and whether the device has attachments for different surfaces.

Which is better, a steam cleaner or a spot cleaner?

Whether a steam cleaner or spot cleaner is better depends on the problem. A spot cleaner is better for deep stains in fabric upholstery. It moistens the fabric and sucks up the dirt. A steam cleaner works with heat and is stronger at cleaning hard surfaces such as tiles and floors.

What is the best stain remover?

The best stain remover for fabric surfaces such as sofas, carpets and mattresses is often an electric spot cleaner. The device combines moistening and suction, pulling dirt out of the deep fibres. For small stains on clothing, a stain remover spray can be enough. For large surfaces or recurring stains, a spot cleaner makes the difference.

What is the best way to remove stains?

The best way to remove stains depends on the type of stain. The Achaté spot cleaners work with water only. A separate cleaning agent is not needed. For manual stain removal, enzymatic cleaners work well on organic stains such as coffee, wine or pet stains. Avoid bleach on coloured fabrics. Most importantly: the sooner you treat a stain, the better the result.
