More about spot cleaners

Everything you want to know before choosing a spot cleaner: how it works, what you use it for and which model suits your household best.

How does a spot cleaner work?

The Achaté Spot Cleaner moistens the fabric and immediately sucks up the dirty water with the loosened dirt. The Spot Cleaner works with water only. A separate cleaning agent is not needed.

What remains is a clean, slightly damp surface that dries within a few hours. The difference with dabbing or scrubbing? The spot cleaner actually pulls the dirt out of the fibres instead of spreading it around. Unpleasant odours disappear too, so your upholstered furniture not only looks clean but also smells fresh.

For everyday stains and stubborn dirt

The Spot Cleaner PRO goes a step further with a steam function and hot water up to 50 degrees. The steam of around 100 degrees dissolves stubborn dirt and grease. That way you also tackle older, deep stains that won't come out with water alone.

What is a spot cleaner suitable for?

A spot cleaner is versatile and suitable for many fabric surfaces around the home.

Sofas and upholstered furniture

Sofas and armchairs are among the most common uses for a spot cleaner. Drink stains, food residue or everyday dirt can be treated in a targeted way. Use wide attachments to clean larger areas efficiently, while narrow nozzles are ideal for seams, corners and hard-to-reach areas.

For leather or faux leather, only suitable cleaning methods should be used.

Carpets and rugs

A spot cleaner for carpets removes dirt not only from the surface but also from deeper layers of the fibres.

Pet owners in particular benefit: odours, hair and stains that a normal vacuum cleaner cannot remove can be removed much more thoroughly with deep cleaning.

Mattresses

Over time, sweat residue, skin flakes and dust particles build up in mattresses.

A spot cleaner can help remove this dirt from the fibres. Thanks to its steam function, the Achaté Spot Cleaner PRO is also suitable for especially thorough cleaning of mattress surfaces.

Car seats and vehicle upholstery

Car seats are exposed to dirt, drinks or pets every day.

Weighing just 5 kg and with a 1.1-metre hose, the Achaté Spot Cleaner is also easy to use in your car. This lets you thoroughly clean seats, boot linings and other fabric surfaces.

Spot cleaner or steam cleaner: which is the better choice?

A spot cleaner and a steam cleaner take different approaches to cleaning.

A spot cleaner

  • applies water to textiles
  • loosens dirt from the fibres
  • sucks the dirty water straight back up
  • is especially suitable for upholstery, carpets and mattresses

A steam cleaner

  • works with hot steam
  • loosens dirt on hard surfaces
  • is especially suitable for hard floors such as tiles or bathroom areas

As a stain remover for sofas, carpets and car seats, a spot cleaner is usually the better choice. For hygienic cleaning of floors, bathrooms or kitchen surfaces, a steam cleaner is the better fit.

The Achaté Spot Cleaner PRO combines both technologies: it works as a spot cleaner and also has a steam function for textiles.

Which spot cleaner is the best?

The best spot cleaner depends on what you want to use it for. For regular cleaning of sofas, carpets and car seats, the Achaté Spot Cleaner is a great fit. For particularly stubborn or older stains, the Spot Cleaner PRO with hot water and steam function offers extra cleaning power.

Is a spot cleaner worth it?

Yes, especially in households with children, pets or heavily used upholstered furniture. A spot cleaner removes dirt deep from the fibres and can extend the life of carpets and upholstery.

Can you use a spot cleaner without cleaning detergent?

Yes. The Achaté spot cleaners work efficiently with water and suction power. In many cases, no additional cleaning detergent is needed. This is gentle on materials and reduces residue on the cleaned surfaces.

Which surfaces is a spot cleaner suitable for?

A spot cleaner is suitable for cleaning sofas, armchairs, carpets, rugs, mattresses, car seats and many other textile surfaces. Always test delicate materials on an inconspicuous spot before use.

What is the difference between a wet & dry vacuum and a spot cleaner?

A wet & dry vacuum is primarily designed to suck up liquids, spills or puddles that are already there. A spot cleaner is a specialised device that also has a spray function: it pumps water and, if needed, a suitable cleaning solution deep into textiles such as upholstery or carpets. The loosened dirt is then sucked straight back up in the same pass.
